Most of this morning has been spent editing the audio from my "Places, Connections & Recollections" interview project. This is very fun to do, using Audacity as a audio editing program. It takes a lot of concentration to edit succesfully, as you are listening out for sound imperfections in the track, as well as cutting and rearranging the spoken interview to make it interesting as well as removing the interviewers questions.
However reducing 20 minutes down to 2 is a challenge!

Website Review
Second day of website course today - we started with a review of the material from last Saturday (luckily, as it is a long time past in all our memory's). Our task today is to create a website portfolio displaying our works from all the workshops, video, audio, photography, our personal blog and the group blog. This will be a sort of visual resume of all our different projects.

Technical Difficulties!
Oh the frustration! After recording my "Places, Connections & Recollections" audio interview on Wednesday and getting some great material, discovered on uploading that the sound quality was too poor to use.... So went back today to have another go. This one looks much better, but just about to start editing, so will see how it goes.

Audacity with Bill
With Jack off following musical pursuits (go The Neo!) in Adelaide for a few days, Bill Wade made the drive from Darwin to Katherine to be our lecturer on Tuesday. Bill has heaps of experience also, we have been very lucky to have such a broad range of experienced lecturers in this course. Bill worked with us particularly on Audacity, and we learnt to use the 'Normalization' feature as well as removing background noise from a sound track. Very handy skills for our "Places, Connections & Recollections" media project.
All time Low.......
Still working on the Now & Then project for Photoshop class. Tuesday night Francesco and I went to the Low Level to photograph the current state, to integrate with old photos we had of the low level. We have all noticed that photos containing vehicles or people, or something else that clearly "dates" the photo make for more interesting combinations than generic landscape shots. However there are still some great contrasts to be made by showing the change of season, or the passage of time on a certain location.
Dreaming up a website
Saturday was the first day of the Website construction workshop. We explored the language of HTML, and the program "Dreamweaver". This was a whole new ball game after all our audio, video and photo manipulation. It was a long intense day working with such a new topic, but I think we all ended the day feeling slightly less confused!

Photoshop - Now & Then
As part of the Photoshop component of the media course we took a little field trip around Katherine on Thursday evening, photographying the current day versions of some old photos we found on the NTPictures website. This was quite challenging in its self, due to lighting issues and potential storm activity. Then when we got back to CDU we used Photoshop to "blend" the old and new images. Very cool.
